Upwey South Primary School’s volleyball teams have won a swag of medals in the inaugural Volleyball Victoria Primary Schools Cup.
Upwey’s Grade 5/6 boys, Grade 3/4 girls and Grade 3/4 boys took gold, while the Grade 5/6 girls took home silver.
Volleyball coach and PE teacher at Upwey Tecoma Primary School, Steve Hall, says he is proud of the students’ achievements.
“We should all be very proud of our volleyballers,” he said.
“Not only did they present a shining example of what can be achieved when everyone works as a team, supports each other and tries their best, but their behaviour supporting their team-mates off the court and their general sportsmanship were equally impressive.”
Upwey’s students started in a round robin tournament, where each team played and won challenging round robin matches against top quality teams from around Victoria including Billanook.
The teams went straight through to the semi-finals and then into the grand final where all teams came home with a trophy cabinet full of medals.
Mr Hall says it was great to see the family and friends of the students supporting the teams.
“No team can be successful without a great deal of support, so a big thankyou to the families and friends who came along to cheer – you made a big difference on the day,” he said.
“Thankyou to the parents who have supplied photos and thankyou to Gary Monopoly, Georgia Moore and Diana Sutterby for all of their help with the teams while I raced from court to court.
“A special thankyou to all of the students participating in the volleyball program throughout the year, but who were unable to play in the Vic Cup.”
