ADRA Community Care in Croydon has received a commitment from the State opposition pledging $25,000 to continue supporting vulnerable members of the community.

The community group delivers a number of services to help socially isolated people but its key function is to provide warm, nutritious meals to those who need them.

Each Thursday the programs’ Vive Cafe serves about 100 free, healthy three course meals to anyone in need from across the outer east.

Every year the volunteers at Vive put together 3500 food hampers to go to families, provide education on nutrition and make referrals to support services.

On a visit from opposition leader Matthew Guy, the Liberal Nationals announced a funding commitment to ensure ADRA Community Care could continue the important work they do.

Particularly after the pandemic, Mr Guy said should they win the election in November, this money would help rebuild communities.

“Backing those who back their communities is the best way to recover, rebuild and move forward,” he said.

“Organisations like ADRA Community Care do so much for others and deserve this important support so they can continue their outstanding work.”

Croydon MP David Hodgett said he was proud to announce this support for a community organisation in his electorate.

“Vive Cafe has always been there for people needing a hand, particularly over the last two years,” he said.

“The Victorian Liberals and Nationals support those who support others and this grant will go a long way to ensuring the outstanding work ADRA Community Care continues.”
