Kilsyth’s First XI had the challenging task of chasing down North Ringwood’s score of 7/294cc on Day 2 of Round 6 in the Trollope Shield competition. Openers Kevin Baldsing and Jack Childs put on 48 for the first wicket, when Baldsing was caught in the slips by Thomas Robinson off the bowling of Mitchell Skinner for 33 off 34 balls (4 fours) in the 11th over. Andy Solomons and Jack Childs then took the score to 70, when Childs was caught at first slip by Captain Luke McPhie for 23 off 49 balls (4 fours), from the bowling of left arm orthodox spinner, Luke Ridgwell. Kilsyth were now 2/70 after 16 overs with Solomons on 11 not out. With the score on 95, the Redbacks lost two wickets, both claimed by Ridgwell in consecutive overs. The score was now 4/95 after 26 overs with Solomons on 27 not out, so the run rate was on track but the Redbacks were losing wickets. A 46 run partnership for the fifth wicket was looking good until Mackenzie Scott-Thomas was caught at short backward leg for 17 off 26 balls (3 fours) off the bowling of Ridgwell, his fourth wicket. Kilsyth went to the tea break on 5/151 off 38 overs and were well in the game, with Solomons batting superbly on 66 not out and Captain Marcus Adams yet to score. However, on the third ball after tea, Kilsyth’s hopes suffered a major blow with the score on 153 when Andy Solomons was caught behind off medium pacer Mitch Skinner for a superb 68 off 87 balls, including 11 fours. It was Solomons fourth consecutive half century, including T-20 matches. After that, Kilsyth battled hard but in the end were all out for 187 in 55.1 overs. Luke Ridgewell took the bowling honours, sending down 21.1 overs, 7 maidens and capturing 7/44 in a brilliant display of spin bowling. He was well supported by the other wicket taker, Mitch Skinner, who took 3/50 off 14 overs (2 maidens).
The Second XI were all out for 150 the previous Saturday with North Ringwood 0/54 at stumps. North continued batting on Day 2 and the game was called off after they passed Kilsyth’s score, reaching 2/152 in 47 overs. Daniel Rowe top scored with 65 off 97 balls (12 fours) and was well supported by Matthew Stoikos, 39 not out off 56 balls (4 fours), Glen Ibbot, 25 off 83 balls (2 fours), and Benjamin Gill, 21 not out off 46 balls (1 four & 1 six). For Kilsyth, Mark Unternahrer took 1/12 off 5 overs (2 maidens), and Daniel Caton 1/32 off 10 overs (3 maidens).
The Third XI were dismissed for 171 on Day 1 and in reply, Lusatia Park were 1/130 at stumps. On Day 2, Lusatia Park batted on to reach 4/277 and record a comfortable victory when the game was called off after Paul Broussard was dismissed for a brilliant 98. During his commanding innings, Broussard faced 147 balls and struck 8 boundaries. He and Sumant Gupta took the score to 189 in a 113 run second wicket partnership with Gupta scoring 77 off 77 balls (13 fours & 1 six). Further support came from Dean Sharman, 48 off 54 balls (7 fours), and opener Michael Dwyer, 35 off 47 balls (7 fours). For Kilsyth, Trent Potter captured 2/35 off 4.3 overs, including the wicket of Paul Broussard, whilst Andrew Woolhouse took 1/9 off 2 overs and Matthew Burgess 1/22 off 4 overs.
The Fourth XI played a split innings two-day match against North Ringwood. Last week Kilsyth batted first compiling 4/150 in the first split of 36 overs. North Ringwood replied with 2/110. On Saturday they continued their innings and put the foot down on the pedal, being all out for 339 in 72 overs. The highlight of the innings was a sparkling 112 by Stephen Parsons off 136 balls (16 fours & 1 six). Isaac Parsons 43, Brian I’Anson 34, Colin Rules 33 and Adam Rigg 33, also got amongst the runs. Kilsyth’s Tait Harper, who also plays in the Under 14’s, was impressive with the ball, capturing 4/46 off 10 overs (1 maiden). Other multiple wicket takers were Matt Harper, 2/35 off 9 overs, and Mark Rollings 2/39 off 10 overs (1 maiden). The target proved too great for Kilsyth who were dismissed for 252 in 69.5 overs. Together with Anthony Cook’s 76 and Shane Smith’s 28 the previous Saturday, this week Matt Harper made 43 off 67 balls (3 fours), Mark Rollings 24 off 70 balls (2 fours), Shaun Goodwin 20 off 30 balls (2 fours), and Travis Tyszkiewicz 19 off 68 balls (1 four). For North Ringwood, Rodney Stuart captured 3/19 off 7.1 overs (1 maiden), and Harrison Hume 2/6 off 2.5 overs.
The Fifth XI were the only Kilsyth senior team to win on Saturday. They played a one-day match against Hoddle’s Creek Second XI at Elizabeth Bridge Reserve, Kilsyth. The Redbacks won the toss and elected to bat, posting an impressive 6/262cc off their allotted 36 overs. For Kilsyth, the main run scorers were Captain Tyron Paspa, 52 retired not out off 50 balls (9 fours and 1 six), Greg Gommers 51 retired not off 42 balls (8 fours and 1 six), Ravin Mehra 38 off 24 balls (8 fours), Ryan Kaal 26 off 25 balls (5 fours), Geoff Kennedy 23 off 27 balls (3 fours), and Jordan Relf 21 off 13 balls (4 fours). Multiple wicket takers for Hoddles ‘s Creek were Ash Bradley 2/28 off 6 overs, and Thomas McLachlan 2/52 off 7 overs (1 maiden). In reply, Hoddle’s Creek finished on 8/186 off their 36 overs, Sam Ismail top scoring with a scintillating 60 not out off 26 balls (9 fours and 2 sixes). Max Blunt, 26 off 28 balls (2 fours), and Ash Bradley 26 off 36 balls (3 fours), also did well with the bat. Kilsyth’s Ravin Mehra was the best of the bowlers taking 3/12 off 5 overs (1 maiden), whilst Anthony Sequeira, 2/11 off 4 overs (2 maidens), was the other multiple wicket taker. Tegan Unternahrer 1/15, Ryan Kaal 1/21 and Ronak Mehra 1/24 also took wickets. Kilsyth’s Fifths are having a good season and after 7 rounds are in second position on the ladder.
On Sunday, all women’s matches were abandoned by the RDCA with no play due to the weather. Kilsyth’s women’s team are currently third on the C Grade ladder.
The highest score for Kilsyth on the weekend came in the Under 16-1’s when Jack Childs scored a brilliant 89 off 91 balls (7 fours and 1 six). However, it wasn’t enough with Kilsyth all out for 157 in 32.3 overs chasing North Ringwood’s 9/226cc. Will Beard was second top scorer for the Redbacks with 21 off 29 balls (2 fours). The best of the bowlers for North Ringwood were Ben Bellizia, who took 2/10 off 3 overs, Mitchell Lee 2/4 off 2 overs (1 maiden), and Charlie Moore 2/22 off 5 overs.
The combined Yarra Glen/Kilsyth Under 14 team had a great win over Mount Evelyn in a one-day match at Mount Evelyn Reserve. The Mounters won the toss and batted first, compiling an impressive 6/192cc off their allotted 25 overs. Benjamin Dunstone, 34 retired not out off 25 balls (6 fours), Jack Lorkin 23 retired not out off 25 balls (4 fours), Harry Dunstone 21 not out off 28 balls (3 fours), and Tyler Smith 18 not out off 18 balls (3 fours), were the main run scorers. Single wicket takers were Damon Cowan 1/12, Isaac Coppens 1/14, Oliver Gilham 1/14, Hayden Monds 1/16, Tait Harper 1/19 and William Asbury 1/26. Yarra/Glen Kilsyth chased down the target in 18 overs finishing on 2/200. There were a number of inspiring batting performances for the merged team. Lawson Appleton scored 49 retired not out off 25 balls (10 fours), Lucas Burke 35 of 25 balls (7 fours), Ronak Mehra 32 retired not out off 25 balls (4 fours & 1 six), Hayden Monds 26 not out off only 7 balls (5 fours & 1 six), Tait Harper 17 not out off 18 balls (1 four & 1 six), and Daniel Shaw 15 off 10 balls (3 fours). For Mount Evelyn, Harry Dunstone and Ammos Flavel had identical bowling figures, both taking 1/18 off 2 overs each.
The Under 12’s had a narrow loss by 3 runs in their T-20 match against Mitcham. Kilsyth won the toss and elected to bat on Roy Baldwin Oval. The Redbacks finished on 1/65 cc, Tate Lindsay top scoring with 11 not out off 13 balls (2 fours). Oscar Hooke was Mitcham’s wicket taker with 1/4 off 2 overs. After being 4/28, Mitcham chased down the target in the last over, finishing on 4/68cc. Rhys Fox top scored with 15 retired not out off 29 balls. There were three run outs in Mitcham’s innings whilst Aiden Nicol took 1/4 off 2 overs (1 maiden) for the Redbacks.
In the T-20 competitions, Kilsyth’s First XI are undefeated after 3 rounds and the Club’s U18 T-20 team are undefeated after 2 rounds. Last Tuesday evening the Men’s First XI scored 6/187cc, Andy Solomons smashing 66 off 36 balls including 7 fours & 3 sixes, and Jack Childs 28 not out off 23 balls (1 four), to defeat Chirnside Park 8/113cc. Spinners Uvindu Wimaladharma snared 3/18 off 4 overs, Mackenzie Scott-Thomas 2/17 off 3 overs, and Hayden Pleming 2/27 off 4 overs. On Wednesday in the U18’s, Warranwood were dismissed for 108. Best of the bowlers were Kyan Harper 2/7 off 2 overs, Cooper Sticht 2/8 off 1.3 overs, Joel Harris 2/12 off 3 overs and Daniel Pietz 2/19 off 3 overs. Kilsyth chased down the runs finishing on 3/110 in 10.2 overs. Cooper Sticht top scored with 33 off 14 balls (3 fours and 2 sixes), whilst Daniel Pietz was 32 not out off 15 balls (3 fours and 2 sixes), and Lachlan Alderman 21 not out off 8 balls (3 sixes).
