May minor works update from Yarra Ranges Council

Do you find yourself wondering what your rates are funding in the Yarra Ranges?

When we, hard working residents of the Yarra Ranges, pay our rates to the council, we sometimes might think: ‘Where exactly does my money go?’

The majority of the works the council completes are minor works, so it’s easy to overlook them, whereas the bigger, more expensive projects get a lot of attention.

Last month, a number of minor works were completed by the Yarra Ranges Council – here’s a quick rundown for the urban fringes in the Yarra Ranges.

Lillydale Lake had an adjustment to its works program to support school cross country events through term two.

Edinburgh Road Lilydale (from Belfast Road to Hull Road) got one and a half kilometres of footpath gravel resheeting.

Commerford Place in Chirnside Park had its rose garden removal/tidy up done.

Drainage at Joel Place in Mooroolbark was made to be a little more aesthetically pleasing with the creation of swale drain and a pit modification.

The CIRE Child Care Centre in Mt Evelyn had some rotten windows and weatherboards replaced.

Water sensitive urban design works took place on Wattle Valley Road, Mt Evelyn, which helped reduce the volume of stormwater and pollution entering its waterway.

Mt Evelyn Skate Park Playspace had maintenance to its clatter bridge timbers completed.

More flying kids were prevented with inspection and maintenance works being completed on the flying foxes at Camden Drive Reserve Playspace, Morrison Reserve Playspace, Belsay Reserve Chirnside Urban Playspace and the Rolling Hills Playspace. Lots of potential flying kids saved.

Walking on Erith Lane, Kalorama got a little easier with 100 metres of unsealed path gravel being re‐sheeted.

The public toilets at Kalorama Recreation Reserve and Karwarra Gardens got a freshen up too.

Montrose Town Centre garden bed rejuvenation works were also completed.
