Student artworks to be celebrated in February exhibition

Flourishing Fearlessly by Shayla Kimpton (Mooroolbark College)

Talented high school art students will be celebrated in an exhibition being put on display in February, congratulating their achievements of creating masterpieces in a challenging year of schooling.

31 VCE and VCAL students of 2021 from around the Yarra Ranges have been given the opportunity to have their artwork displayed in 2022’s Creative Showcase at The Memo in Healesville.

The exhibition will take place from Friday 4 February through to Sunday 27 February, hosted by the Yarra Ranges council in collaboration with Burrinja Cultural Centre.

Displaying the works of art and studio art students, the showcase will contain pieces of varying subject matter and of many different mediums, such as photography, painting, sculpture, mixed-media, and drawing.

For students such as these young artists, it was understandably very difficult undergoing VCE during the pandemic and hard to keep spirits high and remain confident in their abilities, as Tara Hamer of Little Yarra Steiner School in Yarra Junction discovered.

“I struggled a lot with finding any motivation or inspiration to progress in the subject. I felt artistically burnt out. It was overwhelming to taint a clean page with my art, I didn’t feel good enough,” Miss Hamer said.

Shayla Kimpton from Mooroolbark College will also have her artwork on show including her piece Flourishing Fearlessly.
