A woman has died and two children have been taken to hospital after a house fire in Mooroolbark late last night.

Emergency service crews were called to the Maralee Drive address just before 9pm on Monday 5 September, where CFA and FRV members extracted the woman and children from the house.

The woman had sustained injuries to her stomach and the two children were unconscious from smoke inhalation.

“Two primary school aged children were taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a serious condition,” an Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said.

Although paramedics treated the woman for her injuries, she sadly died at the scene.

Six firefighting crews worked to bring the fire under control, with a CFA spokesperson saying “a stop was called on the incident at 21:57.”

It is believed the woman and two children were the only occupants of the home at the time of the fire. The father has been with his children in the hospital.

The exact circumstances leading up to the fire are still being determined, however, police are not looking for anyone else at this time.
