Powerlines down in Kilsyth see major road close

Mount Dandenong Road in Kilsyth has been closed near Hawthory Road due to a fallen powerlines.

The road has been closed in both directions between Colchester and Liverpool roads, with emergency services directing traffic to use Canterbury Road or Cambridge Road.

The Department of Transport (DoT) released an update on road conditions around metropolitan Melbourne after severe weather impacted many roads and intersections.

“Motorists and passengers are urged to be vigilant as strong winds cause travel disruptions across metropolitan Melbourne,” the DoT statement said.

AusNet has also indicated that 564 customers have been affected by the outage which currently remains under investigation. The estimated time of restoration is 5.30pm.

89 customers in Croydon are also experiencing an outage, with an estimated restoration time of 5am tomorrow morning.

Across the foothills, more outages have been recorded by AusNet; Lilydale 504, Mount Evelyn 922, Mooroolbark 11 and Montrose 180 with an estimated restoration time of 7.30am tomorrow morning.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the Bureau of Meteorology at 8am on Monday 21 November, with high winds of up to 100km/h possible.

“Conditions can change quickly. Drivers should carefully consider the need to travel in the area and follow the direction of emergency services,” the DoT said.

“Drivers should leave extra space between themselves and the car in front, as braking distances increase in wet conditions. Judging distance and speed can deteriorate in adverse conditions.”
