Watch and act order issued as firefighters battle Montrose bushfire

Residents in Montrose have been told to prepare to leave as firefighters and air support work to bring a bushfire under control.

A CFA spokesperson said fire crews responded to reports of a smoke column at around 1.43pm on Saturday near Sheffield Rd in Montrose.

“26 CFA units from multiple local brigades responded alongside FRV, Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria,” they said.

“Upon arrival, crews found an active grass and scrub fire in the Dr Ken Leversha Reserve and immediately began suppression efforts.”

Air attack support was requested to assist ground crews.

A Watch and Act – Prepare to Leave warning has been issued for Kilsyth and Montrose.

The incident is ongoing.

More to come.
